… PPE that is. (Personal Protective Equipment)
What is personal protective equipment?
Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as “PPE”, is equipment worn to protect and minimize exposure to serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from construction, mechanical, electrical, physical, chemical or other workplace hazards. Personal protective equipment may include items such as high visibility vests, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, boots, earplugs, respirators, or coveralls.
All personal protective equipment should be safely designed and constructed. It should fit comfortably, encouraging worker use. If it’s comfortable, the worker is more apt to wear it. If the personal protective equipment does not fit properly, it can make the difference between being safely covered or dangerously exposed.
Here at Alliance Architects, we are provided with our own hard hats, safety vests, and protective eye wear.
Workers should know:
- When PPE is necessary.
- What kind of PPE is necessary?
- How to properly put it on, adjust, wear and take it off.
- The limitations of the PPE.
- Proper care, maintenance, useful life, and disposal of the equipment.
