DISD's Felix G. Botello Elementary is a two-story, 91,727 square-foot elementary school situated on 7.65 acres in Dallas, Texas. The project included 40 classrooms (including special needs and a behavioral unit), gymnasium, kitchen, cafeteria, 400-seat auditorium, library, science laboratories, music and art classrooms, media center and administrative offices. A two-story plan was configured so that public areas could be separated from the main wing, facilitating after-hour use by the community. Elevations have three major finishes: brick masonry, glazing storefront and storefront systems. The location and use of materials express the inside functions, identifying the building as a school. Tilt wall construction was successfully integrated in lieu of traditional building methods to maximize the square footage while staying within the given budget. |
